How I Garden

The first thing that got me into gardening is a bit philosophical. We live on a block of land thats over 1000 square metres in size. Theres only three of us. We have a front lawn that would easily fit a studio apartment on it. Out the back we have a large shed, a wide driveway and two back yards. One with poor quality grass on it and one that is now my garden. My zen space.

We are very lucky here in Australia to be able to live like this. Being a product of the suburbs of the 60's there is an expectation that we all can and should live like this.

This is of course a dream. By 2050 there will be 30 + million living in Australia. Apartment living is the norm of the future. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Then theres the image how others live in this world. How would a family man in Manilla or Mexico City feel if he had over a thousand square metres to live in?

So I thought I could try a little harder to make good use of the precious space we have and learn to grow food on it. Lots of food.
